Starting Your Journalism
Career with The New York Times Regional Newspaper Group
The New York Times Company Regional Media Group has numerous internship programs, some coordinated through the Regional headquarters in Tampa, Fla., and others directly by the newspapers. Each program offers the opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain experience at papers ranging in circulation from 11,000 to 120,000.
- 10-week reporter and copy editor summer internships at 11 of the regional papers. The program application deadline is Dec. 31st of previous year.
- Two summer internships each year at The New York Times and Boston Globe. Open to candidates with at least one previous NYTRMG internship.
- Annual summer internships coordinated
through each of the individual newspapers.
Interns are provided a full range of experience in their discipline, including mentoring and regular reviews of their work. And while internships with the Regional Newspaper Group are open to all candidates, they are viewed as programs designed to create ethnically diverse newsrooms.
